We are probably all guilty of procrastinating from time to time but there are some things that God wants us to take care of today. In Hebrews 3:7-8 the Holy Spirit said, “To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness.”
God wants us to hear His voice right now. We each have the wonderful blessing of being able to hear God’s voice everyday by studying His Word. God breathed into the message we call the Bible and made it a living and active message (Gen. 2:7; Heb. 4:12). Don’t allow this urgent message to be tucked away to be dealt with later.
God wants us to obey His voice right now. When we obey God’s Word it has the power to save our souls (James 1:21). Everything we need to know about “life” and “godliness” is found in God’s Word (2 Pet. 1:3). We must not procrastinate when it comes to hearing and obeying God’s Word. Let’s be like Ezra, who “prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments” (Ezra 7:10).
God wants us to be saved right now. Our salvation is one more thing that we can not put off until another day; it must be given top priority. When a man named Felix heard the gospel, he responded by saying, “When I have a more convenient season, I will call for thee” (Acts 24:26). Felix’ statement of procrastination left him lost for another day. God says to all who are procrastinating about salvation, “now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2).
Procrastination is so dangerous because it robs us of one of the most precious commodities we possess, time! Benjamin Franklin once said, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of.” After wasting too much time in sin Solomon finally came to His spiritual senses and said “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (Eccl. 12:13). We have wasted enough time living in sin; now we need to redeem the time (Eph. 5:15-16). There is no better way to redeem our time than by using what remains to serve the Lord. Are you redeeming the time or will procrastination be your downfall?
