1 Corinthians 10:13.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
God’s Word is a divine “How To” book, on how to overcome temptation.
Five things that can help us overcome temptation.
1) Temptation is common to man; we all face it. [1 Corinthians 10:13]
2) When temptation comes, do not blame God. [James 1:13-17]
3) Satan is the tempter; the one that tempts us. [Matthew 4:1-13]
Satan’s methods: Satan uses lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, pride of life. [1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.]
4) Temptation itself is NOT sin. Jesus was tempted, yet without sin. [Hebrews 4:15-16 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.]
Temptation becomes sin if we accept and fall to the temptation. [James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.]
5) We give into temptation because the flesh is weak. [Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.]
